About PEAIThe Foundation of the PEAIThe Physical Education Association of Ireland was founded in 1968 at a time when there was growing concern that the future course of Irish Education should be redirected. In his historical account of the P.E.A.I. commissioned for it's 21st birthday, Dr. Thomas O'Donoghue stated that "the P.E.A.I. was one of a number of subject associations founded in the 1960's in response to the renewed interest in education in Ireland". The necessary spur into action came when it became known that the International Council on Health, Physical Education and Recreation (I.C.H.P.E.R.) was to hold its eleventh conference in Dublin in 1968.
