Korfball

Korfball is unique in being the world’s only mixed team sport.  Both sexes play together on completely even terms.  In play, Korfballers only directly oppose members of their own gender, therefore the game is structured to dilute advantages of height, speed or strength that would otherwise make mixed team sport impossible to achieve with any degree of equality.  Korfball is a passing and basket shooting game requiring similar skills to basketball and netball. The team consists of eight players (four male, four female) who take turns at playing offence and defence. If you are looking for a game that encourages co-operation, gender balance and sportspersonship, and one that meets a number of objectives in the junior and senior cycle curriculum this game is worth investigating.  Give it a go!  It is a very new sport in Ireland that promises to spread quickly and provide pathways for our students to play at recreational, competitive, and at international level.
