PEAI Conference 2011 - Ballincollig, Cork - 14th/15th October 2011 The annual PEAI Conference and AGM was held in October 2011 in the Oriel House Hotel and Colaiste Choilm, Ballincollig. The conference focused on supporting developments within Senior Cycle Physical Education. More... Successful Leaving Certificate Physical Education Syllabus Consultation held in September 2011 The NCCA, last year, engaging in a process of consultation regarding the new Leaving Certificate Physical Education Syllabus. The PEAI supported the consultation process by hosting information evenings where teachers could give feedback on the new framework in Sept Oct 2011. More... The PEAI have launched an award in recognition of an outstanding contribution to physical education in Ireland. It will be presented annually at the PEAI Conference. The award is named in memory of Michael Darmody. More... Download nomination form here... The PEAI encourages Irish post-primary schools to seek recognition for their wider PE programmes via the Active School Flag Scheme. More Information available here... Regional Meetings will be held to support schools who wish to engage with the Active School Flag initiative. These will be held nationwide in late September/early October 2011. See details here... European Congress of Adapted Physical Activity Conference 2012 CARA APA Centre and the Institute of Technology Tralee are hosting the EUCAPA Conference from 6th-8th May 2012. The focus of the conference will be the presentation of research and case studies which can inform day to day practice in relation to the inclusion and empowerment of people with disabilities. Physical Education Grants to Post Primary Schools A grant for physical education equipment that was announced by An Tánaiste Mary Coughlan T.D. on Monday 22nd November 2010. This grant entails a total package of €7.8m to be distributed to post primary schools throughout the county. More... Initial Teacher Education Conference - Call for Papers This international conference (June 30th – July 2nd 2011, St. Patricks College) will be of interest to all involved in initial teacher education at primary and post-primary levels. Athletics Ireland 'School Mile Challenge' Athetics Ireland have launched an initiative to encourage young people to take up running as a fitness activity called the “School Mile Challenge” to be run in Dec 2010 and Jan 2011 More... PEAI 'Position Statement on Physical Education' and 'Physical Education Factsheets' The PEAI executive has developed a position statement on physical education and two fact sheets which are a user-friendly and easily accessible resource for the PEAI membership to use as reference points. These are presented in a ‘one-stop’ format that would give an overview of issues related to each area. The factsheets developed to date are ‘Post-primary Physical Education Provision in Ireland’ and ‘Benefits of Physical Education’ More... New sites: Get Ireland Active and Little Steps The HSE has developed two websites to provide information and advice on physical activity and healthy eating. More... Response to progress to NCCA development of Senior Cycle PE - February - April 2009 This document will outline the views of practicing teachers on the draft curriculum documents for Senior Cycle PE More... A teachers forum is now available on the JCPE website. This forum is an extremely useful tool to share ideas, teaching methods and planning tips, as well as discussing resources, facilities and any other concerns teachers may have. The forum can be joined on the JCPE website. http://jcpe.ie/ NCCA Resources for PE Teachers The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment has recently developed a set of Junior Cycle fact sheets, which give information about the different subjects available in junior cycle.
